Annir is proud to announce that it has officially been accredited as a Verified Signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), becoming the first Libyan organization to earn this prestigious global recognition. This milestone marks a significant step forward for professional, transparent, and independent fact-checking in Libya, North Africa, and the wider region. It also reflects the growing importance of strengthening information integrity at a time when misinformation continues to challenge public trust and civic engagement. Annir received its official IFCN verification on 06 November 2025.
Over the past four years, Annir has worked tirelessly to counter information disorder and promote media and information literacy. The team has investigated hundreds of misleading and false claims, developed rigorous methodologies, and contributed to regional and international events focused on combating mis/dis/mal information and strengthening digital safety. These efforts have played an essential role in supporting informed decision-making, encouraging responsible digital behavior, and fostering a culture of factchecking within communities that are increasingly exposed to harmful and fast-spreading misinformation.
“This accreditation is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our team,” said Amjed Khrwat, Head of the Fact-Checking Unit at Annir. “It highlights our commitment to global standards of accuracy, transparency, and independence, and positions Annir as a trusted voice in a rapidly evolving information landscape.”
The IFCN accreditation process is highly selective and includes a comprehensive external assessment of an organization’s neutrality, transparency of sources, methodology, funding, editorial independence, and corrections policy. Only a small number of organizations globally are able to meet these standards, making this achievement both important and meaningful for the Libyan fact-checking ecosystem.
This international recognition reinforces Annir’s mission to build a safer digital space, empower communities with reliable information, and promote critical thinking across Libya. It also signals Annir’s continued commitment to expanding its impact and contributing to global efforts to combat information disorder in all its forms.
